Ingredients
- 1 package puff pastry (2 sheets, thawed)
- 1 pound kielbasa sausage
- 1 egg (optional)
- 1 tablespoon water (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (204 degrees C) to prepare for baking the puffs.
- Slice the kielbasa: Use a sharp knife to cut the kielbasa sausage into 36 slices, approximately half an inch thick each. Set them aside.
- Prepare the puff pastry: Lightly dust a work surface with flour. Unfold one sheet of thawed puff pastry onto the surface and gently roll it a couple of times each way with a rolling pin to smooth it out.
- Cut the dough: Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough in half vertically, then slice horizontally to create 18 strips. These will be used to wrap the kielbasa slices.
- Wrap the sausage: Wrap each kielbasa slice with one strip of puff pastry, pinching the edges to seal. Toothpicks can be used if desired for extra security and easier serving.
- Repeat wrapping: Repeat the dough rolling, cutting, and wrapping process with the second sheet of puff pastry and remaining kielbasa slices.
- Apply egg wash (optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush this egg wash over each wrapped puff to give them a shiny golden finish once baked.
- Prepare baking sheet: Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick spray or line it with a Silpat or parchment paper.
- Arrange and bake: Place the wrapped kielbasa puffs on the baking sheet, spacing them at least 1 inch apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 13-15 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm with your favorite dipping sauces such as mustard, BBQ sauce, or ranch dressing.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before starting to prevent cracking when rolling.
- The egg wash is optional but helps achieve a beautiful golden, shiny crust.
- Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to ensure clean dough strips.
- Toothpicks are helpful for serving but ensure to remove before eating.
- These puffs can be reheated in the oven to maintain crispiness.
- Try serving with a variety of dips like honey mustard, spicy mayo, or cheese sauce for variety.
