Description

A simple and flavorful baked onion recipe that infuses the onion with a blend of spices and butter, creating a tender and savory side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F to prepare for baking the onion.
  2. Prepare Onion: Cut off both ends of the onion. Using a melon baller or spoon, scoop out the center of the onion about halfway down to create a cavity for the seasonings and butter.
  3. Season Onion: Place the onion on a large piece of aluminum foil on a rimmed baking sheet. Mix all the spices together, scoop half into the hollowed center of the onion and sprinkle some over the top. Pour the melted butter into the center, then add the remaining spices on top.
  4. Seal and Bake: Bring the sides of the foil together to create a sealed packet around the onion. Place the packet in the oven and bake for 45 to 50 minutes until the onion is tender and infused with the seasoning and butter.
  5. Serve: Remove the foil packet carefully from the oven and open it slowly to avoid steam burns. Serve the baked onion immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use a sharp melon baller or small spoon for easier scooping of the onion center.
  • Adjust the seasoning amounts to suit your taste preferences.
  • Be cautious when opening the foil packet to avoid steam burns.
  • This recipe works well as a side dish for meats or as a vegetarian option.
  • Leftover baked onion can be refrigerated and gently reheated.
