Description

This classic BLT sandwich recipe is elevated with a creamy, tangy sauce featuring mayonnaise, sour cream, and yellow mustard. Crispy oven-baked bacon, ripe tomatoes, fresh lettuce, and creamy avocado come together on golden butter-toasted bread for a deliciously satisfying meal perfect for lunch or a quick dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Toasting

  • 8 slices of bread (cut 1/2” thick)
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter (to toast the bread)

Bacon

  • 12 slices bacon (regular sliced)

Vegetables

  • 2 large ripe tomatoes (thickly sliced)
  • 4 green lettuce leaves (rinsed and spun dry)
  • 1 large avocado (or 2 small avocados, pitted, peeled and sliced)
  • Salt and black pepper (to taste)

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp sour cream
  • 2 tsp yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bacon: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Lay the bacon slices in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the bacon is browned and crisp. Then transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease and cool.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, and yellow mustard. Mix well and set aside for the flavors to marry.
  3. Toast the Bread: Lightly butter both sides of each bread slice. Heat a dry griddle or skillet over medium-high heat and toast the bread until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Assemble the Sandwich Base: Place 4 slices of toasted bread on a cutting board. Spread about 1 tablespoon of the prepared sauce on each slice. Layer each with a lettuce leaf, thick tomato slices, crispy bacon, and sliced avocado. Season the avocado with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Finish the Sandwich: Spread 1 tablespoon of sauce on the remaining toasted bread slices and place them sauce-side down on top of each assembled sandwich. Cut the sandwiches in half if desired and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using foil to line the baking sheet makes cleanup easier after cooking bacon.
  • For crispier bacon, keep an eye on it while baking as oven temperatures can vary.
  • You can substitute the bread with whole grain or gluten-free bread based on preference.
  • Adding avocado adds creaminess and healthy fats, making the sandwich more filling.
  • The sauce can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated.
