Description

A quick and flavorful Chicken Cabbage Stir-Fry combining tender marinated chicken breast with crunchy cabbage and carrot in a savory sauce, perfect for a healthy and satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Marinade

  • 1 pound chicken breast
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Vegetables and Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cups shredded cabbage
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken: Trim any excess fat from the chicken breast and slice it thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  2. Marinate Chicken: In a bowl, combine sliced chicken with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  3. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat to prepare for stir-frying.
  4. Cook Chicken: Add the marinated chicken to the hot skillet and stir-fry for about 5-7 minutes until fully cooked and lightly browned. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add more oil if needed. Sauté minced garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 1 minute, to build the base flavor.
  6. Cook Vegetables: Add shredded cabbage and julienned carrot to the skillet. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften but retain some crunch.
  7. Add Sauce: Pour in chicken broth and oyster sauce. Stir well to combine and coat the vegetables evenly.
  8. Combine Chicken and Vegetables: Return cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss everything together and stir-fry until heated through and flavors meld, about 1-2 minutes.
  9. Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting flavor as desired.
  10. Serve: Serve the chicken cabbage stir-fry hot over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Marinate the chicken longer for more intense flavor if time allows.
  • Use a wok or large skillet for best stir-frying results.
  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce and oyster sauce based on your salt preference.
  • You can substitute chicken breast with thighs for a juicier option.
  • Add chili flakes or fresh chilies for a spicy kick if desired.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp texture of the vegetables.
