Ingredients
Scale
Mushrooms and Coating
- 500 g fresh mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
Egg Wash
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
Frying
- Vegetable oil, for frying (enough to cover 1/2 inch depth in pan)
Serving
- 1/2 cup store-bought or homemade ranch dressing
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare coating station: In one bowl, combine all-purpose flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and milk to make the egg wash. Place seasoned breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Heat oil: Pour vegetable oil into a large frying pan to about 1/2 inch depth and heat over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.
- Coat mushrooms: Dip each mushroom slice first in the flour mixture to coat thoroughly, then into the egg wash, and finally press into the seasoned breadcrumbs ensuring an even coating.
- Fry mushrooms: Carefully place coated mushroom slices into the hot oil in batches to prevent overcrowding. Fry each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain excess oil: Use a slotted spoon to remove fried mushrooms and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain off excess oil.
- Repeat frying: Continue coating and frying remaining mushroom slices in batches following the same method.
- Arrange for serving: Once all mushrooms are fried and drained, arrange them on a serving platter.
- Serve: Serve immediately with a bowl of ranch dressing for dipping, and optionally garnish with fresh parsley for a festive presentation.
Notes
- Ensure the oil temperature remains steady to achieve a crispy coating without absorbing excess oil.
- Do not overcrowd the pan to maintain frying temperature and even cooking.
- Use fresh mushrooms for best texture and flavor.
- Homemade ranch dressing can enhance freshness but store-bought works well for convenience.
- Serve immediately for best crispiness as the coating can become soggy if left to sit.
