Description
Delicious and easy-to-make Cinnamon French Toast Sticks, perfect for a quick breakfast or snack. These crispy, cinnamon-coated sticks are cooked on the stovetop with butter and served warm with optional maple syrup for dipping.
Ingredients
Scale
For the French Toast Sticks
- 4 thick slices white bread, preferably stale
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- Pinch of salt
- 3 tbsp butter
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon powder
To Serve
- Maple syrup (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the bread sticks: Remove the crust from each bread slice and cut each slice into 3 equal thick batons to form the French toast sticks.
- Make the egg mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Prepare cinnamon sugar: On a plate, mix the white sugar and cinnamon powder evenly.
- Melt butter: Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large pan over medium-high heat until fully melted and sizzling.
- Coat the bread sticks: Quickly roll the bread sticks in the egg mixture, making sure not to soak them. Shake off any excess egg mixture and place them carefully into the hot pan. Cook in two batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook until golden: Turn the sticks to cook all sides until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- Coat with cinnamon sugar: Immediately transfer the cooked sticks to the cinnamon sugar plate and roll them quickly while they are still hot so the sugar coating sticks well.
- Cook remaining sticks: Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter and repeat the cooking and coating process with the remaining bread sticks.
- Serve: Serve your cinnamon French toast sticks immediately while warm, accompanied by maple syrup for dipping if desired.
Notes
- Using stale bread is ideal as it absorbs the egg mixture better without becoming too soggy.
- Do not soak the bread sticks in the egg mixture; a quick roll ensures they remain crispy.
- Cook in batches to maintain the pan temperature and to ensure even cooking.
- Rolling the sticks in cinnamon sugar immediately while hot is key for sticking and flavor.
- Maple syrup is optional but adds a delicious sweetness for dipping.
