Description

This Classic Marble Cake blends rich chocolate and vanilla batters swirled together to create a moist, tender, and visually stunning cake perfect for any occasion. With simple ingredients and straightforward steps, this 9-inch marble cake offers a delightful balance of flavors and a beautiful marbled effect.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Other

  • 1 cup white sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan to prevent sticking and ensure easy cake release.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, place the all-purpose flour, white sugar, milk, eggs, softened butter, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
  3. Mix batter: Stir the mixture slowly just to moisten the ingredients, then use an electric mixer at medium speed to beat it for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  4. Separate batter for marbling: Reserve ¾ cup of the batter and pour the rest into the prepared cake pan evenly.
  5. Make chocolate batter: Stir the unsweetened cocoa powder into the reserved ¾ cup batter until it is uniformly mixed and has an even chocolate color.
  6. Create marble effect: Drop large spoonfuls of the chocolate batter on top of the vanilla batter in the pan. Use a knife to gently swirl the cocoa batter into the vanilla to create a marbled pattern.
  7. Bake the cake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center—the cake is done when it comes out clean.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the cake to cool briefly on a wire rack. Carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate or cooling rack. Let it cool completely before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is softened for easier mixing and a smoother batter.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the cake tender and light.
  • You can test for doneness a few minutes before the suggested baking time as ovens may vary.
  • To enhance the chocolate flavor, use good quality cocoa powder.
  • This cake is suitable for serving with a dusting of powdered sugar or a light glaze if desired.
