Scale
Avocado Sauce Ingredients
- 1 large ripe avocado
- 1/3 cup sour cream or yogurt
- 1/2 small clove of garlic
- Juice of 1/2 lemon or 1 lime
- 1 – 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 cup packed coriander (cilantro), roughly chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: Place the ripe avocado, sour cream or yogurt, garlic, lemon or lime juice, olive oil, and chopped coriander into a food processor or blender. Blend until the mixture is very smooth and creamy. If you prefer, you can use a stick blender for this step.
- Adjust Consistency and Flavor: Add water gradually to adjust the thickness of the sauce to your liking. Taste and then add additional lemon or lime juice to increase tanginess if desired. Season with salt and pepper carefully, considering the saltiness of any accompanying dishes.
- Store Properly: Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate. It will stay fresh and maintain its vibrant green color for up to 4 days.
Notes
- Use ripe avocado to ensure a smooth and creamy texture.
- If you prefer a dairy-free version, substitute sour cream or yogurt with a plant-based alternative or omit entirely.
- Adjust the garlic amount based on your preference for pungency.
- This sauce pairs wonderfully with Mexican dishes, grilled meats, vegetables, or as a dip.
- If the sauce darkens slightly after storage, stir it well; the flavor remains excellent.
