Description

Crispy and sweet funnel cake fries, perfect for a fun and delicious treat. These deep-fried strips of funnel cake batter are dusted with powdered sugar, offering a delightful twist on the classic fairground favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For Frying and Finishing

  • 2 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry: Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring continuously until a smooth batter forms without lumps.
  4. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat, approximately 350°F (175°C), ensuring it’s hot enough for frying but not smoking.
  5. Fry the Batter: Using a spoon, carefully pour the batter into the hot oil in long, thin strips resembling fries. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until the batter turns golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain Excess Oil: Remove the funnel cake fries from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  7. Dust and Serve: Generously dust the warm funnel cake fries with powdered sugar. Serve immediately and enjoy while warm for the best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil temperature is around 350°F to ensure crispy fries; too hot and they will burn, too cool and they will absorb too much oil.
  • You can use a piping bag for more uniform strips if desired.
  • Serve with dipping sauces like chocolate or caramel for extra indulgence.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute the all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
