Scale
Syrup Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons cane sugar
- 4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
- 4 tablespoons minced ginger
- 1 stalk lemongrass, diced
Cocktail Ingredients
- 3 ounces Anejo tequila
- 1 ounce Cointreau
- Ice (for shaking and serving)
- Lime wedges to garnish
- Salt (for rimming glasses)
Instructions
- Prepare the syrup: Combine the cane sugar, freshly squeezed lime juice, minced ginger, and diced lemongrass in a small pot over medium-high heat. Stir constantly and bring the mixture to a boil, then remove from heat immediately once boiled to preserve the fresh flavors.
- Puree the syrup: Transfer the hot sugar-ginger-lemongrass mixture to a blender or food processor and pulse until smooth and well combined into a syrup.
- Strain the syrup: Using a fine-mesh sieve, strain the pureed mixture into a bowl or container, capturing the clear liquid and discarding the solids for a smooth syrup.
- Prepare the glasses: Rim two rocks glasses with salt by moistening the rims and dipping them into salt. Fill the glasses with crushed ice to chill.
- Shake the cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, combine the strained ginger lime syrup, Anejo tequila, and Cointreau. Add at least two cups of ice and shake vigorously until well chilled and combined.
- Serve and garnish: Pour the shaken margarita evenly into the prepared glasses over the crushed ice. Garnish each with a fresh lime wedge and serve immediately for a refreshing experience.
Notes
- Use fresh lime juice for the best flavor and brightness in the cocktail.
- Adjust the cane sugar quantity depending on your preferred sweetness level.
- For stronger ginger flavor, you can increase the minced ginger slightly or infuse longer before boiling.
- Rimming glasses with salt is traditional but optional; you can try sugar or leave the rim plain.
- This margarita is best served fresh, as the fresh ingredients may lose potency over time.
