Ingredients
Scale
Cookie Dough
- 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp almond extract
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
Coloring and Decoration
- Purple gel food coloring
- Black gel food coloring
- Purple sprinkles
- ½ cup black or chocolate sprinkles
Instructions
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the room temperature unsalted butter and powdered sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, which will create a smooth base for the dough.
- Add Eggs and Milk: Beat in the eggs and milk until the mixture is fully combined and smooth, ensuring even moisture through the dough.
- Incorporate Dry Ingredients and Extracts: Gradually add the all-purpose flour, salt, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing gently until a soft dough forms without overworking it.
- Divide and Color Dough: Divide the dough into three equal portions. Leave one uncolored (white), tint one portion purple using purple gel food coloring, and color the last portion black with black gel food coloring.
- Roll and Layer Dough: Roll each colored dough portion into rectangles of similar size. Layer the dough rectangles starting with the black layer on the bottom, then the white layer, and finally the purple layer on top. Sprinkle purple sprinkles on the purple layer and the black or chocolate sprinkles on the black layer for added texture and decoration.
- Form the Spiral Log: Carefully roll the layered dough tightly into a log shape, making sure the layers stay aligned to maintain the spiral effect.
- Slice and Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the dough log into rounds about ¼ to ½ inch thick and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden, then let cool before serving.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without affecting dough consistency.
- Make sure the butter is softened to room temperature for easy creaming.
- Do not overbake; remove cookies once edges are just golden for a soft texture.
- Chilling the dough log before slicing can help get cleaner slices and better spirals.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
