Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 large mango (fresh or 1 cup frozen, peeled and chopped)
- 2 habanero peppers (seeded for less heat)
- 4 garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat until shimmering, which prepares the pan for sautéing the aromatics.
- Sauté garlic: Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, releasing its aromatic flavor without burning.
- Add main ingredients: Stir in the chopped mango, habanero peppers, honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, lime juice, and salt to the saucepan, mixing everything well.
- Simmer the sauce: Let the mixture simmer gently on medium-low heat for 10–15 minutes until it thickens slightly, allowing flavors to meld and the sauce to reduce.
- Cool and blend: Remove from heat and let the mixture cool before transferring it to a blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth for a silky texture.
- Season and store: Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Pour the sauce into a jar or airtight container and store in the refrigerator once fully cooled.
Notes
- For less heat, remove seeds and membranes from habanero peppers completely.
- Use fresh mangoes for the best flavor, but frozen mango works well in a pinch.
- This sauce keeps well refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
- Use as a glaze for grilled chicken, pork, shrimp, or as a spicy dip.
- Adjust honey quantity to control sweetness according to your preference.
