Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (or coconut oil)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Start by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the aromatics.
- Sauté onion: Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release its aroma without burning.
- Cook the ground meat: Add the ground beef or turkey into the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and no longer pink.
- Drain excess fat: If necessary, carefully drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish light.
- Add cabbage: Gently stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes until it begins to wilt but still retains some texture.
- Season: Sprinkle paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) over the mixture. Stir well to evenly distribute the spices.
- Add tomatoes and simmer: Pour in the diced tomatoes and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and flavors meld.
- Adjust seasoning: Taste and add more salt or pepper if needed to suit your preference.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter version.
- Use coconut oil instead of olive oil to keep it strictly paleo.
- Adjust crushed red pepper flakes to control the heat level.
- Serve with cauliflower rice for a complete paleo meal.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
