Description

This Paleo Cabbage Skillet is a hearty and flavorful one-pan meal combining ground beef, fresh cabbage, and aromatic spices. Easy to prepare and cook within 35 minutes, it’s perfect for a nutritious paleo-friendly dinner that’s both satisfying and healthy.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (or coconut oil)
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil: Start by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for sautéing the aromatics.
  2. Sauté onion: Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes until they become translucent and fragrant.
  3. Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds to release its aroma without burning.
  4. Cook the ground meat: Add the ground beef or turkey into the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and no longer pink.
  5. Drain excess fat: If necessary, carefully drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish light.
  6. Add cabbage: Gently stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes until it begins to wilt but still retains some texture.
  7. Season: Sprinkle paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) over the mixture. Stir well to evenly distribute the spices.
  8. Add tomatoes and simmer: Pour in the diced tomatoes and stir to combine. Let the mixture simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and flavors meld.
  9. Adjust seasoning: Taste and add more salt or pepper if needed to suit your preference.
  10. Garnish and serve: Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Use coconut oil instead of olive oil to keep it strictly paleo.
  • Adjust crushed red pepper flakes to control the heat level.
  • Serve with cauliflower rice for a complete paleo meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
