Description

This Taco Dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer perfect for sharing. Featuring layers of seasoned ground beef, creamy sour cream and cream cheese mixture, shredded lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and black olives, it’s great for parties, game days, or casual gatherings. Ready in just 15 minutes, this flavorful dip pairs perfectly with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Layer

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ¾ cup water

Creamy Layer

  • 16 ounces sour cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Toppings

  • 2 cups iceberg lettuce (shredded)
  • 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend (or cheddar cheese)
  • 3 Roma tomatoes (diced)
  • 2.25 ounce can sliced black olives

Instructions

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to a skillet and cook over medium-high heat, breaking it apart into medium-sized crumbles until thoroughly browned.
  2. Drain Excess Grease: Once the beef is cooked, carefully remove any excess grease to avoid a greasy dip.
  3. Season the Beef: Stir in one packet of taco seasoning and ¾ cup water into the browned beef to evenly coat the meat.
  4. Simmer the Meat: Allow the beef and seasoning mixture to simmer for 3-5 minutes until most of the liquid evaporates. Then remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Prepare Creamy Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine sour cream, softened cream cheese, and the remaining taco seasoning packet. Use a spoon or hand mixer to blend until smooth and creamy.
  6. Spread Creamy Layer: Evenly spread the sour cream mixture on the bottom of a pie plate or 8×8-inch glass pan, smoothing it out to form a base.
  7. Add Beef Layer: Spoon the seasoned ground beef over the creamy layer, spreading it evenly.
  8. Top with Cheese: Sprinkle shredded Mexican or cheddar cheese on top of the beef layer.
  9. Layer Fresh Vegetables: Add shredded lettuce, diced Roma tomatoes, and sliced black olives as the final layer to add freshness and texture.
  10. Serve: Serve the taco dip at room temperature with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add chopped jalapeños to the toppings.
  • This dip can be assembled a few hours ahead and refrigerated until ready to serve; bring to room temperature before serving.
  • Use low-fat sour cream and cream cheese for a lighter version.
  • If taco seasoning packets are unavailable, use homemade taco seasoning.
  • Black olives are optional but add nice contrast and flavor.
