Description

This Taco Pizza recipe combines the bold, spicy flavors of classic tacos with the cheesy, crispy delight of a pizza. Featuring a seasoned refried bean base, melty Mexican cheese, fresh vegetables, and optional toppings like sour cream and cilantro, it’s a quick and flavorful meal perfect for taco lovers and pizza fans alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Refried Bean Mixture

  • 16 oz. refried beans (store-bought or homemade, black or pinto)
  • 1 oz. taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade, 1 packet)
  • 8 oz. taco sauce (store-bought or homemade, divided)

Pizza Base and Toppings

  • 16 oz. pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, room temperature)
  • 3 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend (Colby jack cheese or mild cheddar cheese can also be used)
  • ½ cup halved cherry tomatoes
  • ½ cup chopped green bell pepper
  • ¼ cup sliced olives

Optional Toppings

  • Sliced green onions
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 500°F to ensure a hot environment for a crispy crust and melted cheese.
  2. Prepare Bean Mix: In a medium bowl, thoroughly combine the refried beans, taco seasoning, and half of the taco sauce to create a flavorful base spread.
  3. Shape Dough: On a floured surface, stretch and roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch circle, ready to be topped.
  4. Spread Bean Base: Evenly spread the seasoned refried bean mixture across the pizza dough, covering the surface.
  5. Add Sauce: Drizzle the remaining taco sauce over the bean layer to add moisture and extra flavor.
  6. Add Toppings: Sprinkle ¾ of the shredded Mexican cheese blend on top, followed by halved cherry tomatoes, chopped green bell pepper, and sliced olives. Finish by sprinkling the remaining cheese evenly over the toppings.
  7. Bake: Bake the pizza in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and add dollops of sour cream, sliced green onions, and fresh cilantro if desired. Slice into 8 pieces and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use either black or pinto refried beans depending on preference; both work well.
  • Adjust taco seasoning quantity to taste if using homemade seasoning blends.
  • For a crispier crust, bake pizza directly on a preheated pizza stone or oven rack.
  • Optional garnishes like sour cream, green onions, and cilantro add freshness and creaminess but can be omitted.
  • Prepare pizza dough ahead of time or use store-bought for convenience.
